Density Matrix Expansion for Low-Momentum Interactions
A first step toward a universal nuclear energy density functional based on lowmomentum interactions is taken using the density matrix expansion (DME) of Negele and Vautherin. The DME is adapted for non-local momentum-space potentials and generalized to include local three-body interactions. Different prescriptions for the three-body DME are compared. Exploratory results are given at the Hartree...
متن کاملTowards an Improved Level Density Description for Unstable Nuclei
Astrophysical investigations of the nucleosynthesis in stars (r-process, rp-process) and in the early Universe require the knowledge of thermonuclear rates involving exotic nuclei which currently are not accessible experimentally. In most cases the statistical model approach (Hauser-Feshbach, HF) is used for cross section and reaction rate calculations. (Only when the level density of a nucleus...
متن کاملDensity matrix renormalization group and wave function factorization for nuclei
We employ the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) and the wave function factorization method for the numerical solution of large scale nuclear structure problems. The DMRG exhibits an improved convergence for problems with realistic interactions due to the implementation of the finite algorithm. The wave function factorization of fpg-shell nuclei yields rapidly converging approximations...
متن کاملImproved semiclassical density matrix: taming caustics.
We present a simple method to deal with caustics in the semiclassical approximation to the thermal density matrix of a particle moving on the line. For simplicity, only its diagonal elements are considered. The only ingredient we require is the knowledge of the extrema of the Euclidean action. The procedure makes use of complex trajectories, and is applied to the quartic double-well potential.
